How do i share a dialup internet connection on a desktop with a laptop?

i have a desktop with a dialup connection. i need to share that connection with my laptop. i have a crossover cable, ethernet cables, regular dial up cables, an external modem, and an ethrnet switch laying around if that helps. please help! THE DESKTOP IS RUNNING WINDOWS XP, LAPTOP HAS WINDOWS 7.
