How to connect dialup to my new netbook?

I just bought a new acer aspire one d255e netbook. I got home and connected my dialup connection to my new netbook and it says the connection is not available because there is a problem w the modem or network adapter. what does this mean? do i need to downlad a modem driver for my netbook or what? someone w computer ecxperience plz help?
